Ecological resources
Cities, towns, and suburbs are home to all the Earth's basic ecological resources, including air, water, and land resources that provide habitats for people, plants, and animals.
The natural resources component of an urban plan identifies both the quantities and qualities of the community's ecological resources.
Identifying local habitats and spe- cies allows local urban plans to designate conservation areas and coordinate future development with the protection of valuable ecological resources.
